FUL’s MBBS Programme Secures MDCN Accreditation After Second Assessment

The announcement sparked widespread celebration at the College of Health Sciences, Adankolo, as the MDCN formally communicated its positive verdict to the University Management at the conclusion of the exercise.
An emotional Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, expressed profound gratitude to God for the successful outcome, describing the accreditation as a landmark achievement for the young medical programme. In a moment that underscored the significance of the feat, the Vice-Chancellor knelt in thanksgiving, acknowledging the challenges previously faced by the institution.
Professor Akinwumi commended members of the University Management, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Mike Ogirima, mni, and staff of the College for their collective commitment, resilience, and hard work that culminated in the success of the accreditation exercise.

He recalled the Council’s initial visit in August 2025, which resulted in an unfavourable verdict, noting that the outcome served as a wake-up call for urgent reforms and infrastructural upgrades. According to him, the University responded decisively, addressing the identified gaps within a short period.
The Vice-Chancellor also praised the MDCN accreditation team for its professionalism, objectivity, and fairness, acknowledging the Council’s recognition of the rapid improvements made by the University since the previous assessment.
The successful accreditation positions the Federal University Lokoja among institutions authorised to train medical doctors in Nigeria and marks a major milestone in the University’s drive to strengthen its health sciences and medical education programmes.

The development has been widely hailed by staff, students, and stakeholders as a significant boost to the University’s academic profile and a validation of its rising status within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
