The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has recorded another notable administrative milestone as its Deputy Bursar, Dr. Moses Akpan, has been appointed the substantive Bursar of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO).

The appointment adds to FUNAAB’s growing reputation as a breeding ground for senior administrators in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, whose administration is reported to have produced nearly 20 principal officers and senior university administrators across institutions nationwide.
Dr. Akpan is an accomplished accountant and administrator with strong academic and professional credentials. He holds a B.Sc. in Accounting (Second Class Upper Division), an MBA and M.Sc. in Accounting from the University of Lagos, as well as a Professional Diploma in Education from the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta. He is also licensed by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and later obtained a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Uyo.
He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and is currently awaiting fellowship status. His academic output includes publications in reputable local and international journals, alongside extensive experience in public financial administration and university accounting systems.

At FUNAAB, Dr. Akpan built a robust administrative profile, serving across multiple units within the Bursary Department with responsibilities spanning financial management, taxation, budgeting, and statutory compliance. He most recently headed the Taxes and Statutory Deductions Unit, where he oversaw critical assignments including Tax Clearance Certificates and National Housing Fund processes.
He also chaired the university’s New Tax Law Implementation Committee, which coordinated the smooth rollout of revised tax regulations within the institution. His expertise further earned him appearances before National Assembly committees, where he defended institutional financial matters.
Beyond administration, Dr. Akpan also served as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Accounting at FUNAAB, contributing to teaching and academic development while maintaining active engagement in public service.
His professional experience also includes service at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and Veritas University, Abuja. He is widely regarded as a disciplined, accessible, and integrity-driven administrator with a strong record of performance and stakeholder engagement.
Reacting to the appointment, the FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor described the development as evidence of the institution’s commitment to developing highly competent professionals who continue to make impact across Nigeria’s higher education system.
