FUNAAB Set for 108th Inaugural Lecture: Prof. Olayiwola to Address Data-Driven Public Policy

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, is set to hold its 108th Inaugural Lecture on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Prof. Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building of the University. 

The lecture titled: 'From Sample to Solution: Harnessing Statistics for Evidence-based Public Decision-making in the Data Age', would be delivered by Prof. Olaniyi Olayiwola, a Professor of Statistics, from the Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS).

Speaking on FUNAAB Radio 89.5FM live interactive programme, Boiling Point, as part of pre-lecture activities, Prof. Olayiwola explained that statistics "is the scientific way of collecting, analysing, presenting, and interpreting data," urging governments at all levels to involve statisticians in policy making, saying that based on proper and scientific decision making principles, the government would be able to fight food insecurity better.

He said that on Wednesday, the University and the general public would be able to understand the beauty of statistics, and how local and available resources can be used for the betterment of agriculture in the country. 

Meanwhile, the Chairperson, Ceremonials Committee (CERECOM), Prof. Temitope Ajadi, urged listeners to tune in on Wednesday, while charging all attendees to be punctual and maintain orderliness.
