The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, has announced the forthcoming vacancy for the office of Vice-Chancellor, which will become open in February 2026.

In line with its statutory responsibility, the Council invites qualified and distinguished academics to apply for the position.

This was contained in a formal announcement signed by Mufutau A. Ibrahim, Registrar and Secretary to Council.

About the Institution

Established in 2011 by the Federal Government, FUOYE was founded to expand access to quality tertiary education and to meet global academic expectations. The institution operates two campuses: the main campus in Oye-Ekiti and a second campus in Ikole-Ekiti.

The university currently runs 15 faculties:

  • Oye-Ekiti campus: Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Computing, Education, Law, Management Sciences, Pharmacy, Communication and Media Studies, Social Sciences, and Science.
  • Ikole-Ekiti campus: Agriculture, Computer and Information Engineering, Engineering, Environmental Design and Management, and Multidisciplinary Studies.

In addition, FUOYE operates a Postgraduate School and has a student population of 59,159.

The Job of the Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor serves as:

  • Chief Executive, Chief Accounting Officer, and Academic Head of the University.
  • Ex-officio member of the Governing Council.
  • Chairman of Senate and Chairman of Congregation.

The Vice-Chancellor is the principal exponent of FUOYE’s educational mission and oversees the coordination of all academic and administrative organs of the institution. Key duties include:

  • Advising the Governing Council on financial, administrative, and developmental matters.
  • Ensuring peace, discipline, and order in the university community.
  • Overseeing student admissions in line with Senate and statutory guidelines.
  • Enforcing all laws, statutes, ordinances, and regulations of the university.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • Holders of a Doctorate Degree from a recognized university (except Professors of Medicine).
  • Professors with at least 10 years of service in a reputable institution as at the time of application.
  • Distinguished scholars with strong academic and administrative records.
  • Capable of attracting international research and development grants.
  • Visionary leaders with clear plans for advancing FUOYE’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Individuals of unimpeachable integrity and moral character.
  • In good mental and physical health.
  • Not more than 65 years old at the point of assumption of office in February 2026.

Terms of Service

The successful candidate shall serve a single term of five (5) years. The remuneration and other benefits will be in line with the conditions of service applicable to Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria, as determined by the Federal Government and the FUOYE Governing Council.
