FUTA Appoints Prof. Davies Folorunso as Director of Quality Assurance Management Unit

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has appointed Professor Davies Oladayo Folorunso as the new Director of its Quality Assurance Management Unit.

Professor Folorunso, a Professor of Advanced Materials Engineering in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, brings more than three decades of experience spanning teaching, research, academic administration and professional practice to the new assignment.

He became a Professor at FUTA in 2021 after progressing through the academic ranks, having joined the University as an Assistant Lecturer in 2007. His appointment as Director of the Quality Assurance Management Unit took effect in 2026.

An accomplished scholar and engineer, Professor Folorunso holds a Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from FUTA, which he obtained in 2012. He also holds a Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

He is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a registered teacher with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

His appointment comes with extensive experience in university administration and quality management. Before his current role, Professor Folorunso served as Sub-Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, FUTA, from 2017 to 2019.

He has also chaired the Strategic Planning Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee of the School of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, among other academic and administrative responsibilities.

Professor Folorunso has contributed significantly to scholarship and the development of engineering materials. His research interests include refractory materials, ceramics, composites, corrosion, thermal insulation, as well as the development and value addition of indigenous materials.

His research portfolio includes several completed and ongoing postgraduate research supervisions at Master's and doctoral levels.

His scholarly contributions are reflected in an extensive body of publications in national and international journals. His recent research output covers advanced materials, refractory ceramics, bioactive glass-ceramics, waste-derived materials and biomedical applications.

He has also participated in numerous national and international academic conferences and workshops.

Professor Folorunso is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Metallurgical Society, Materials Society of Nigeria and Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Within FUTA, he has served in several capacities, including membership of the University Senate, Boards of Studies and Examiners. He has also chaired both the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Committees in his Department.

As Director of the Quality Assurance Management Unit, Professor Folorunso is expected to deploy his extensive academic, administrative and professional experience towards further strengthening FUTA's commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement and the maintenance of high standards in teaching, research and other institutional operations.
