FUTIA Felicitates Akwa Ibom State College of Education on 8th–13th Combined Convocation Ceremony
The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) has joined other prominent institutions and stakeholders in the education sector to felicitate the Akwa Ibom State College of Education (AKSCOE), Afaha Nsit, on the occasion of its 8th to 13th Combined Convocation Ceremony.

In a goodwill message presented on behalf of the Chancellor of FUTIA, Alhaji Muhammadu Barau Mu’azu, the Governing Council led by Rt. Hon. Dr. Emaeyak Ukpong, the Management, Staff, and Students, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Leo Daniel, congratulated the Provost, Professor Daniel Udo, and the entire College community on achieving yet another academic milestone.
Professor Daniel commended the institution for over three decades of sustained contribution to teacher education, academic excellence, pedagogy, research, and community development across the state and beyond.
“For the past three decades, the College has significantly contributed its quota to the advancement of academic excellence, teachers’ education, research, and community development in the State, region, and country,” he stated.
Highlighting the institution’s historical importance, Professor Daniel noted that the College—being the first tertiary institution established by the Akwa Ibom State Government in 1991—remains a beacon of knowledge, teacher training, innovation, and cultural heritage.
He also praised the College’s commitment to its vision of producing “God-fearing, intelligent, and result-oriented teachers committed to global best practices,” describing it as perfectly aligned with the goals of establishing tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
While reaffirming FUTIA’s motto, “Innovation Drives Transformation,” the Vice-Chancellor expressed the University’s readiness to pursue collaborative partnerships with AKSCOE in areas such as research, manpower development, and technological innovation, in order to enhance academic and community growth.
Professor Daniel congratulated the 2,898 graduands who were conferred with the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in various fields, urging them to contribute meaningfully to national development through professionalism and integrity.
He also specially lauded Prof. Daniel Udo, the outgoing Provost, for successfully completing his five-year tenure with a record of remarkable achievements, noting that his leadership had strengthened the College’s academic and institutional foundations.
The event was graced by distinguished personalities, including the Visitor to the College and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh; and Prof. Matthew Nsing Ogar of the Cross River State University (UNICROSS), who delivered the convocation lecture.
During the ceremony, the College honored Governor Umo Eno, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki (Coordinator, Office of the Akwa Ibom State First Lady), and Mrs. Funmi Idongesit Nkanga, wife of the former Governor of the State, for their outstanding contributions to education and community service.

The combined convocation ceremony drew attendance from heads of federal and state tertiary institutions, parents, alumni, and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
