General Admission Requirements
PhD Programmes
- Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree from FUTMINNA or a recognized university, or possess equivalent qualifications acceptable to the University Senate.
- A minimum overall performance of 60%, ‘B’ grade, or CGPA of 3.50/5.00 in the Master’s programme is required.
- Candidates with weak backgrounds may be required to take prescribed courses at the discretion of the School/Department.
Master’s Programmes
- Minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) from FUTMINNA or any recognized university.
- Third Class Honours holders with at least 2 years relevant experience may be considered, potentially requiring a departmental qualifying examination.
- HND holders with Lower Credit and Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant field with 1 year relevant experience may be considered.
- Examination fee of N2,000 applies where qualifying exams are required.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes
- Third Class Honours or HND holders with Lower Credit and relevant experience are eligible.
- OND Lower Credit holders may also be considered with relevant experience.
Other Requirements
- NYSC certificate or exemption letter is mandatory for all programmes.
- Candidates with pass grades at any level or CGPA below 2.50 (for Master’s) are ineligible.
- Science-based backgrounds are generally preferred.
- All Master’s programmes include both coursework and research components; a thesis defense is mandatory.

Duration of Programmes
PhD
- Full-time: Minimum 6 semesters (3 academic sessions), maximum 10 semesters (5 sessions)
- Part-time: Minimum 10 semesters (5 sessions), maximum 14 semesters (7 sessions)
Master’s Degree
- Minimum 3 semesters, maximum 6 semesters (full-time only)
- CGPA of 2.50 must be maintained each semester
Postgraduate Diploma
- Minimum 3 semesters, maximum 6 semesters
- CGPA of 1.50 must be maintained

- Minimum of two referees required; referee reports must be submitted online and optionally as hard copies.
- All certificates must be uploaded in original color copies.
Application Fees
- N15,000 plus applicable service charges via Remita using MasterCard or Verve
Acceptance and Registration
- Successful applicants must pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of N20,000
- Subsequent registration involves verification of credentials, payment of school fees, and departmental registration within stipulated deadlines
