GSU Hosts Global Experts at International Symposium on Mathematical Sciences
The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Gombe State University, successfully hosted the International Symposium on Current Trends in Mathematical Sciences on 5th and 6th June 2026 at the NITDA ICT Innovation Park, Gombe State University.
Organised by the GSU–Mathematics for Innovative Research (GSU–MIR) Group, the symposium brought together academics, researchers, postgraduate students, and participants from across the globe to discuss emerging developments and innovations in the mathematical sciences.
Declaring the symposium open, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, commended the Department of Mathematical Sciences for sustaining a culture of research and intellectual engagement through the organisation of impactful academic programmes. He reaffirmed the University's commitment to promoting research, innovation, and academic excellence.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Danladi Muhammed Umar, also praised the department for its outstanding contributions to scholarship and research, noting that it continues to distinguish itself through academic excellence and innovative initiatives.
In his welcome address, the Head of Department, Dr Semiu Oladipupo Oladejo, welcomed participants and expressed appreciation for the support of the University Management towards the success of the symposium.
The Coordinator of the GSU–MIR Group, Dr Aliyu Mohammed Awwal, highlighted the origin and objectives of the group and emphasised the importance of research collaboration in advancing the mathematical sciences.
The symposium featured presentations by distinguished scholars from different parts of the world, providing participants with valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration.
The successful hosting of the symposium further demonstrates the Department of Mathematical Sciences' and Gombe State University's commitment to advancing research and fostering academic excellence.
