Hope Alive Initiative HAI has applauded the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s education sector, with landmark initiatives that are already reshaping the future of learning and research across the nation.

The good governance initiative, in a statement on Sunday by its Director, Press and Communications, Ernest Omoarelojie, stated that from the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), to the recent release of N2 billion each to federal universities for hostel accommodation of 500-bed spaces in the respective institutions amounting to over N250 billion, the Tinubu administration continues to underscore a deliberate strategy to empower students, strengthen institutions, and position education as the bedrock of national development.

According to the HAI, the most remarkable feats of this administration are the operationalization of NELFUND, a visionary scheme designed to provide interest‑free loans to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions.

“For decades, access to higher education has been hindered by financial constraints, leaving countless talented youths unable to pursue their dreams, but today, NELFUND directly addresses this challenge by ensuring that no student is denied education due to lack of funds,” the statement states.

It further notes that “The scheme is not just about financing tuition; it is about democratizing opportunity. By removing the financial barriers, NELFUND empowers students from diverse backgrounds to acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies that will enable them to contribute meaningfully to the economy.

“We note with great enthusiasm that in a further demonstration of commitment, the Tinubu administration is releasing N2 billion to each federal university across the country for hostel development to address acute hostel accommodation that has beleaguered public universities for decades.

“This intervention is a game‑changer for thousands of students who have had to grapple with poor and dilapidated hostel infrastructure.”

The group called on university authorities to expedite action on the refund of school fees to students who paid before receiving support under the student loan scheme.

The Initiative called on Nigerians to note that the Tinubu administration has set a new benchmark in educational reform through these interventions and many others, and urged Nigerians to continue to support the government to do more for our country.
