In the academic arena, Ifesinachi Okafor-Yarwood, a distinguished Nigerian scholar, researcher, and lecturer, has emerged as a beacon of excellence. Beginning with a first-class degree in International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies from London Metropolitan University in 2012, she garnered accolades such as the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence and the Dean’s Prize for Outstanding Achievement.
Undaunted by her early successes, Ifesinachi pursued a master’s degree in Conflict, Security, and Development at King’s College London, graduating with distinction in 2013. Her intellectual journey reached its zenith with a Ph.D. in Leadership, Security, and Development from the same institution in 2019. Her groundbreaking thesis explored the complexities of illegal fishing in the Gulf of Guinea, shedding light on its implications for human and national security.
Currently, as a lecturer in Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, Ifesinachi extends her influence beyond the classroom. Her expertise spans the blue economy, environmental justice, human security, maritime governance, and security. Serving as a visiting research fellow at the National Defence College’s Institute of Strategic Research and Studies in Nigeria, she contributes to policy-oriented research on maritime security issues in Africa.
