Nigerian Nurses, Midwives Association Rejects OAU Teaching Hospital's School Fees Increase
The association highlighted that the original hike from N140,000 to N840,000 placed an excessive financial burden on students, significantly impacting their access to education. Earlier reports by SaharaReporters indicated disquiet at OAUTHC after the management raised tuition fees by over 200%, causing concern among students and parents who were already struggling with the previous N250,000 fees.
The National Association of Student Nurses, Midwives and Perioperative Nurses of Nigeria (NASNMPONN) at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) has firmly opposed the purported reduction of school fees from N840,000 to N640,000. The rejection was conveyed in a joint statement by NASNMPONN's President, Akinade Solomon, General Secretary, Adubi Temitope, and the Public Relations Officer, Famakinde Oyindamola.

After discussions with the hospital management, the fees were reportedly reduced to N640,000 for HND students and N361,000 for ND students. However, the association emphasized that this adjustment still poses financial challenges for the student populace. Ongoing dialogues between the Student Union Government and the hospital management aim to explore additional possibilities for a more substantial decrease in school fees.
The SUG called upon students, parents, and the community to unite in their collective pursuit of a fair and inclusive educational environment.
