UNIDEL VC Throws Weight Behind Students' Union, Initiatives

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, Prof. Eric Eboh, has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to championing the welfare, leadership development and career success of students. 

Speaking during an interactive session with the newly inaugurated SUG Executives, Principal Officers, and some senior academic staff at the Senate Chambers on Monday, July 27, 2026, Prof. Eboh declared that the University Management was fully prepared to work hand in hand with the Students' Union Government (SUG) to build a globally competitive institution.

He maintained that the students remained the heartbeat of the University and a central pillar of his administration's RAISE Strategy, which is driving UNIDEL's transformation into a world-class institution.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the students leaders that Management would not only listen to their concerns but would actively partner with them in implementing initiatives capable of enriching campus life and preparing graduates to excel in an increasingly competitive global environment.

"Our students are very important to us," Prof. Eboh declared. "We are determined to produce graduates with holistic content who can compete with the best anywhere in the world. We expect the SUG President to provide purposeful and exemplary leadership, work harmoniously with his executive members, and always see the University Management as partners in progress. We are ready to champion your cause."

Prof. Eboh further disclosed that the university would strengthen the role of the Career Development and Counselling Centre (CDCC) to equip students with leadership qualities, employability skills, entrepreneurial competence and the right values needed to succeed beyond the classroom.

Earlier, the President of the Students' Union Government, Comrade Eneni Kemesuodei unveiled an ambitious blueprint designed to reposition student leadership as a catalyst for institutional development.

Among the flagship initiatives presented were Project Connect, aimed at bridging communication between the University Management and the student community, and Operation Keep UNIDEL Clean, a sensitization and enlightenment campaign intended to promote discipline, environmental cleanliness and a stronger sense of ownership among students.

President Eneni also appealed for institutional support, including the provision of a utility vehicle, financial assistance and accommodation to enable the union to discharge its statutory responsibilities.

The meeting featured a robust exchange of ideas that produced far-reaching resolutions aimed at strengthening communication and improving campus administration.

Among the key decisions reached were the activation of students' institutional email accounts, the deployment of a comprehensive students' mobile application, the creation of official WhatsApp communities for effective information dissemination, and renewed enforcement of the university's dress code for students and visitors.

Principal officers present at the meeting included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Ijeh; the Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Esther Akpojuvie; the Bursar, Dr. Sunny Ikeogwu; the University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Vera Okonoko; and some senior academic staff.
