Meet Dr. Usman Bashir, the Public Health Consultant Shaping Kano’s Healthcare Future

A distinguished Public Health Consultant, Dr. Bashir currently serves as the Director General of the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA), where he leads the state’s response to HIV/AIDS and other major public health challenges.

Beyond his government responsibilities, he is a respected academic in the Department of Community Medicine, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), where he mentors and trains the next generation of medical doctors and public health professionals. He also serves as a Consultant Public Health Physician at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), contributing to healthcare delivery and public health practice.

Dr. Bashir holds the prestigious Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPH) in Public Health. Over the years, he has built an impressive career through research, teaching, and service, with key interests in epidemiology, disease prevention, healthcare quality improvement, health systems management, and operational strategies for controlling infectious diseases such as HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), and Viral Hepatitis.

In recognition of his expertise, Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed Dr. Usman Bashir as the Director General of the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA) on 17 July 2023. Since then, he has continued to provide strategic leadership in strengthening public health interventions, promoting disease prevention, and improving healthcare outcomes across Kano State.
