Fulafia Gets Federal Boost As Education Minister Promises Solar Power And Infrastructure Support

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, has restated the Federal Government's commitment to the development of the Federal University of Lafia, FULafia, promising to extend the ministry's solar power initiative to the institution's Take-off Site Campus.

Alausa made the pledge when he welcomed to his office, in Abuja, the Chairman of the Governing Council of FULafia, Dr Modupeola Adebimpe Adebajo, and other members of the council and University's Management team.

Alausa assured the delegation of the Federal Government's continued support, stressing that reliable electricity "is vital for research, innovation and efficient administration."

Earlier, in her remarks, Dr Modupeola Adebimpe Adebajo outlined some of the University's critical infrastructure needs, including improved security, additional student hostels, lecture halls and expanded road network to cater for the institution's growing population.

She further noted that although the Ministry of Education's 1.6-megawatt solar power project has significantly improved electricity supply at the University's Permanent Site Campus, the project has yet to cover the campus and extend to the Take-off Site Campus. 

She, therefore, appealed for the expansion of the solar power project to ensure reliable electricity at both campuses.

She appealed for the ministry's intervention to sustain academic excellence and create a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.

The delegation included the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Prof. Mohammed Isa Kida, the Registrar, Dr Nuradeen Abdu, Governing Council members including Dr Amos Gizo and Prof. George Genyi, Chief of Staff to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Bashir Ozomata, and Mr Akinje Festus, the Federal Ministry of Education's representative on the University's Governing Council.
