Kaduna State University Hosts First Virtual PhD External Defence in History and Strategic Studies

The Department of History and Strategic Studies at Kaduna State University (KASU) successfully conducted its first-ever virtual PhD external defence on July 1, 2025.

The historic event marked a significant milestone in the department's academic advancement, particularly in the use of technology to facilitate higher education research and evaluation.

The PhD candidate, Sunday M. Adebayo Aloko, presented and defended his thesis titled "Pentecostalism in Kaduna Metropolis: A Study of Its Impacts and Challenges, 1970–2020." The session was attended by a panel of distinguished supervisors and other postgraduate students and researchers who joined virtually from various locations.

The defense was presided over and assessed by the external examiner, Dr. John Ebute Agba, from the Department of History at Benue State University, Makurdi. The successful conduct of the virtual defense reflects KASU's growing commitment to embracing emerging technologies and supporting postgraduate research.
