KSP Establishes Unified Student Unions, Inaugurates New Executives

Kano State Polytechnic (KSP) has established unified structures for the Students' Union Government (SUG), Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), and National Association of Kano State Students (NAKSS), as well as Vice Presidents representing each School of the Institution.

The initiative is part of the management's efforts to promote unity, accountability, effective representation, and peaceful coexistence among students, while ensuring greater coordination and uniformity in student leadership activities across the Polytechnic.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the newly appointed executives, the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Maryam Kabir, said the selection of the new student leaders was based on their academic records and good conduct.

Dr. Maryam urged the newly inaugurated executives to be innovative, forward-looking, and inclusive in the discharge of their responsibilities. She encouraged them to carry all students along and ensure that their leadership contributes positively to the development of the Institution.

She further advised the student leaders to channel their concerns and challenges through appropriate channels and embrace dialogue in resolving issues with the management and other stakeholders. She also urged them to work closely with the Student Affairs Department to enhance their impact and contribute meaningfully to the growth and progress of the Polytechnic.

The Deputy Rector congratulated the newly inaugurated executives on behalf of the management and the entire KSP community, describing their appointments as well deserved. She wished them success and wisdom in the discharge of their respective responsibilities.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, the Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Mal. Aminu Shehu Gwarzo, described the establishment of the unified student unions as a milestone in the history of Kano State Polytechnic.

According to him, the unified structure is expected to promote unity, coherent and effective representation, as well as peaceful coexistence among students of the Institution.

He charged the new executives to regard the responsibilities entrusted to them as a mandate to represent the entire KSP community wherever they may find themselves. He assured them of the continued support and cooperation of the Student Affairs Department in maintaining peace and harmony within the Polytechnic.

Mal. Aminu reiterated that the interests and welfare of students remain a top priority of the management and encouraged the new leaders to work responsibly and collaboratively towards achieving this objective.

In his acceptance remarks, the President of the Students' Union Government (SUG), Kano State Polytechnic, Comrade Aliyu Muhammad Tanimu of the School of Technology, thanked Almighty Allah and the management of the Institution for the opportunity to serve as President of the Union.

He pledged to carry every member and the entire KSP student body along, irrespective of their respective schools, religion, tribe, or ethnicity. He promised to use his experience and expertise in steering the affairs of the students, with a focus on three key pillars: Security and Welfare, Academic Excellence, and Transparency and Effective Communication.
