Lagos State University Dissociates Itself From "Bandits Prank" Video; Condemns Unauthorized Filming and Incitement of Fear

The Management of Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a formal statement dissociating the institution from a viral video titled "Bandits Prank on Lasuites," which caused widespread fear and panic on the campus.

The video, created and uploaded by "Datreez Entertainment TV" on Friday, December 5, 2025, depicted individuals dressed in a manner suggesting they were armed bandits, an action that prompted distress among the student populace.

LASU categorically stated that no form of approval, authorisation, or endorsement was given for the recording of the said video. The university administration considers the actions taken by Datreez Entertainment TV as unauthorized filming on campus, which is strictly unacceptable.

The statement emphasized the university's strong condemnation of acts or content that portray or suggest banditry, terrorism, or violent extremism. "The University does not support or encourage any so-called prank that can incite fear, disrupt campus peace, or threaten the sense of safety of its students and staff, particularly at a time when Nigeria faces significant national security challenges," the statement read.

Lagos State University remains committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and peaceful learning environment. Members of the University community are strongly advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately to the LASU Security Unit.
