Lagos State University Inducts 21 Students
Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday, December 1, 2025, inaugurated a select group of 21 outstanding undergraduate students into its Study-Work Scheme, a key component of the university's ongoing drive to digitalise its academic records and boost institutional visibility.
The students will be tasked with working on the Open Educational Resources (OER) Project Portal for the Postgraduate School, which aims to convert and upload all academic projects and theses written by the institution's postgraduates over the years. This initiative aligns with the University’s vision of becoming a modern, technology-driven institution.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, saw the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, disclose the rigorous selection process. Over 700 students initially applied, with 400 shortlisted. Only 21 were ultimately selected following a highly competitive process involving a written examination and a subsequent interview.
"The OER project is designed to digitalise all academic projects... and upload them online for accessibility and visibility," Professor Enikuomehin explained, underscoring the strategic importance of the initiative.
In an address delivered by Professor Enikuomehin, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulated the successful students and highlighted the scheme's dual benefits. She noted that the project provides "opportunities for outstanding students to earn an income while contributing meaningfully to the University’s development," adding that it serves as a "valuable learning platform where essential skills and practical experience can be acquired—assets that will undoubtedly strengthen your curriculum vitae and future prospects.”
The students are required to maintain strong academic performance while committing a minimum of three hours of work per day, three days a week, totaling 27 hours over the project’s duration.
