LASU Congratulates Deaconess Foluke Areola on Historic Election as World Aquaculture Society President-Elect

Lagos State University (LASU) has congratulated Deaconess Foluke Areola, a PhD student in the Department of Fisheries, on her election as President-Elect of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) for 2025.

She becomes the first African and the first woman to hold this prestigious global position.

Deaconess Areola has a long history of trailblazing accomplishments, including being the first female president of WAS (African Chapter) and the first female acting federal director of fisheries in Nigeria, among others.
