The Lagos State University of Education staff team (LASUED Rockets) advanced to the Round of 36 in the male football category of the 2025 Head of Service (HOS) Championship after a thrilling victory over Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area FC.

The Lagos State University of Education staff team (LASUED Rockets) advanced to the Round of 36 in the male football category of the 2025 Head of Service (HOS) Championship after a thrilling victory over Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area FC.

The keenly contested match, played on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Agidingbi Grammar School football pitch, was a tense affair in the opening minutes. However, LASUED Rockets broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Badmus Khalid earned a penalty that was confidently converted by Balogun Basit. Despite their resilience, Ifako-Ijaiye LGA FC failed to seriously threaten the LASUED goalkeeper and struggled to find a breakthrough.

The Rockets resumed the second half with greater intensity, dominating possession and pressing high. Their persistence paid off when substitute Oremokun Adetunji unleashed a thunderous long-range strike to double the lead. The opportunity came after a dazzling run from Obanla Yusuf unsettled the Ifako-Ijaiye defense, forcing a poor clearance that fell kindly to Adetunji.

With dynamic attackers, tireless midfielders, a solid defense, and an overall composed team effort, the LASUED Rockets proved too strong for their opponents, sealing a well-deserved 2–0 victory.

The team, in a joint statement signed by its spokesperson, Kehinde Adeyemi, expressed gratitude to the University Management, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, for its unwavering support in both academic and extracurricular activities. They pledged to continue making LASUED proud by aiming to lift this year’s HOS Football Championship trophy.
