LAUTECH Inducts Second Cohort of Theatre Arts Students, Signals Major Push into Creative Industries

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has inducted the second set of students of its Theatre Arts programme at a formal ceremony held at the University’s Great Hall, reinforcing the institution’s expanding footprint in the creative and entertainment sector.

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has inducted the second set of students of its Theatre Arts programme at a formal ceremony held at the University’s Great Hall, reinforcing the institution’s expanding footprint in the creative and entertainment sector.

The event drew prominent figures from Nigeria’s theatre and film industry, including popular Nollywood actor and academic, Dr. Azeez Oyetoro (Saka), who is Head of the Theatre Arts Department at the Lagos State University of Education, and Olori Adeola Olanipekun, former Arts Director of the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture, among others.

Receiving the guests during a courtesy visit, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, stated that LAUTECH was positioning itself to become a major player in Nigeria’s entertainment and creative economy. He affirmed that the University would not only train performers but also build a full professional ecosystem around the discipline.

He announced that LAUTECH plans to establish its own theatre troupe, a move aimed at providing students with hands-on industry experience while projecting the university’s creative brand beyond the campus.

The ceremony was attended by top university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Innovations), Professor Dahud Olurotimi Araromi; Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun; Bursar, Mr. Olusegun Olatokun; and a member of the Governing Council, alongside other principal officers and deans.

Also present were Professor Thompson Ade Adejumo, Acting Director of Internal Audit; Professor Margaret Areo, Dean of Environmental Sciences; Professor Adeolu Adeniji, Deputy Dean of Arts and Social Sciences; and the Head of the Department of Theatre Arts, Professor Taiwo Oloruntoba-Oju, among others.

The induction marked another milestone in LAUTECH’s diversification into the arts, with the university signaling its intention to produce professionally grounded graduates capable of competing within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding creative industry.
