Lawmaker Announces University Scholarships for Top WAEC Students, Distributes Learning Materials

Hon. Barr Oteigbanyo George-Braah, the Member representing Nembe Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has unveiled a significant educational initiative aimed at supporting students in his constituency. During his recent visits to various secondary schools, the lawmaker pledged to cover the WAEC fees for all Senior Secondary School (SS3) students and to award university scholarships to the students with the best WAEC results.

The announcement was made as Barr George-Braah and his team distributed educational materials to several schools, including NNGS and CGSS in Nembe City, CHS in Nembe Creek, GTSS in Igbeta-Ewoama, CSS in Fantuo and Ewelesuo, as well as CSS Okoroma, CCHS Ologoama, and CSS Ekperiama. The distribution aimed to alleviate the financial burden on parents and enhance the learning experience of students during these challenging times.

According to Clement Ayebaifie, the Lawmaker’s Media Assistant, the distributed materials are intended to support students in their academic pursuits and provide relief to families struggling with educational expenses. Barr George-Braah encouraged students to utilize these resources effectively to improve their performance.

In addition to the educational materials, the Lawmaker announced plans to build a temporary landing jetty at the waterfront of CSS Okoroma and provide two ferry boats to facilitate easier transportation for students from neighboring communities. This infrastructure development is part of his broader commitment to improving access to education.

To further support academic excellence, Barr George-Braah has established a committee, led by Ayebainaemi Lberebo, responsible for organizing quizzes, debates, and other educational activities with attractive prizes. This initiative aims to foster a competitive and engaging learning environment for students.

The Lawmaker also used the occasion to assure his constituents that his office is preparing additional programs designed to benefit youths, women, and the elderly in the community. He called for patience and support from his constituents as these new initiatives are rolled out.

In response, the Principals of the benefitting schools expressed their gratitude for the Lawmaker’s generosity and commitment to education. They assured him that they would continue to provide the necessary guidance to help their students succeed academically.
