McPherson University Celebrates 14 Years of Divine Grace and Academic Expansion

The University community of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, celebrated the institution’s 14th anniversary with activities marking its Founder’s Day. The celebration began on Saturday, February 28, 2026, and continued on Monday morning during the University Staff Fellowship.

The gathering was characterised by thanksgiving and praise to God for the steady growth of the institution. Members of the University community reflected on the milestones and achievements recorded over the past fourteen years.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor, Francis Igbasan, expressed gratitude to God and the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria for establishing the University. He also appreciated the staff for their dedication and for contributing to the growth and stability of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that some institutions that received operating licences on the same day as McPherson University are no longer in operation. He described the University’s survival and progress as evidence of divine grace and purposeful leadership.

He further revealed that the University began academic operations with fewer than 50 students. According to him, the institution has experienced remarkable growth and now boasts a student population of over 3,500.

Speaking on the journey so far, a pioneer staff member, Mr. Edison Benjamin, a Senior Assistant Registrar, recalled joining the University on June 1, 2012, before it officially commenced operations. He described the early years as demanding due to multitasking and limited manpower but noted that the situation has significantly improved.

He added that the University’s growth has been driven by commitment, resilience, and collective effort among staff and management. He expressed optimism that the institution would continue to advance in academic excellence, character formation, and service to society.
