The initiative, coordinated by the University Library under the leadership of Dr. Jerome Idiegbeyan-Ose, University Librarian, was initially intended for library personnel but soon attracted participants from both academic and non-academic staff across the university.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Idiegbeyan-Ose encouraged participants to actively engage with the training and leverage the opportunity to enhance their research and publication skills. He also commended staff for their enthusiasm and commitment to professional development.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kenneth Nwoko, highlighted the central role of research and publication in a university’s mandate, emphasizing that the generation and dissemination of knowledge through scholarly work is fundamental to the identity of any higher education institution.
The guest lecturer, Dr. Goodluck Ifijeh, Acting University Librarian at Chrisland University, Abeokuta, guided participants through best practices in academic publishing. He discussed how to identify reputable journals, avoid predatory publications, and the importance of mentorship for young researchers aiming to build specialized expertise in their fields.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, followed by a hands-on workshop designed specifically for the library staff to strengthen institutional research support and publication management.
The training reflects McPherson University’s proactive approach to building a robust research culture and enhancing the global visibility of its academic work.
