McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, through the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science under the College of Allied Health Sciences (COAHS), commemorated World Antimicrobial Awareness Week with a campus-wide initiative aimed at educating the University community on antimicrobial resistance and promoting responsible drug use.

The programme drew participation from students, academic staff, and non-teaching personnel, reflecting the Faculty’s commitment to advancing public health education across campus. Activities began with a sensitisation session that highlighted the global urgency of antimicrobial stewardship, emphasising that misuse of antibiotics remains a major driver of resistant infections.
Following the session, students and staff conducted an awareness walk through strategic areas of the University, carrying banners and placards with messages aligned to this year’s global theme: “Act Now, Protect Our Present & Secure Our Future.” Faculty facilitators explained the dangers of self-medication, overuse of antibiotics, and improper prescriptions, and encouraged members of the University community to seek professional medical guidance.

The College of Allied Health Sciences reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing educational initiatives addressing antimicrobial resistance. Faculty leadership commended University Management for its support and urged students to serve as advocates for responsible medication practices, ensuring sustained action against the growing threat of resistant infections.
