The Registrar of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, Mrs. Emi’ Alawode, an astute administrator and passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, delivered an inspiring keynote address at the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration organised by the Dangote Women’s Network (DWN) at Dangote Cement PLC, Ibese Plant, Ogun State.

International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is a global occasion that recognises the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while also advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.

This year’s celebration, brought together women from diverse professional backgrounds across three Dangote business units, Dangote Cement PLC, Dangote Packaging, and Dangote Cement Transport, who gathered in the spirit of empowerment, collaboration, and progress.

The event, themed “Give to Gain, Give to Rise,” formed part of activities organised by the Dangote Women’s Network to commemorate International Women’s Day and to promote inclusion, leadership, and empowerment among women within the Dangote Group.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Alawode commended the resilience, commitment, and invaluable contributions of women working across the organisation. Drawing powerful parallels from the cement manufacturing process, she emphasised that just as cement forms the foundation that binds and strengthens structures, women serve as the pillars that hold families, communities, and institutions together.

Through engaging storytelling, humour, and interactive reflections, she encouraged the women to recognise the significance of their roles in both the workplace and society. She further challenged them to continue giving their best through dedication, mutual support, and personal development, noting that the principle of “giving” often creates pathways for growth, opportunity, and collective progress.

The keynote session sparked enthusiastic audience participation, with women reflecting on their shared experiences, aspirations, and the importance of supporting one another in their professional and personal journeys.

Present at the event were members of the Management Team of the Ibese Plant, including Hemant Dave, Chief General Manager, Maintenance, Dangote Cement Plc; Olugbenga Aina, Head, Human Asset Management & Administration; Ayyagari Subbaraidu, Plant Director, Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant; and Abolanle Balogun-Adesunloye, Lead Champion, Dangote Women Network Ibese and Head, Learning & Development, Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant, alongside other senior staff and over 150 participants.

Organisers noted that the presence of the McPherson University Registrar, Mrs. Emi' Alawode, reinforced the importance of partnerships between academia and industry in advancing women’s empowerment, leadership development, and inclusive workplace cultures.

The programme concluded on an uplifting note, with participants reaffirming their commitment to supporting one another and contributing meaningfully to organisational growth and national development.
