Medical Council Commends CUSTECH's Readiness for Medical Programme, Conducts Resource Verification Visit

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has conducted a comprehensive resource verification visit to the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, and its designated Teaching Hospital in Okene. The exercise is a critical step in the institution's quest to secure full accreditation for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.

The high-powered delegation from the apex regulatory body for medical practice in Nigeria was led by its Deputy Registrar, Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakanma. The team began its assessment with an on-the-spot evaluation of the facilities and human resources available at the CUSTECH Teaching Hospital, Okene.

Thereafter, the team proceeded to the main campus of the University in Osara to assess the structures, laboratories, and academic staff within the College of Medical Sciences. The team was conducted round the facilities by the Provost of the College, Professor Solomon Avidime, and the Director of Academic Planning, Pharm. Muhammad Asuku Audu.

Upon conclusion of the verification exercise, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakanma, expressed his satisfaction with the level of preparedness demonstrated by the University management.

Dr. Nwakanma commended the Vice-Chancellor and his entire team for the quality of structures and human resources put in place at both the College of Medical Sciences and the Teaching Hospital. He stated that the existing facilities are a clear indication that the institution is truly ready and willing to produce medical practitioners who would earn the trust of the society.

The MDCN team further provided expert advice and guidance on the necessary steps required to secure full accreditation for the MBBS programme at CUSTECH.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, commended the MDCN team for their thoroughness and professional conduct during the exercise. He lauded the vision of the former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello, for his foresight in establishing the University and the Reference Hospital, which has now been converted to a Teaching Hospital.

Prof. Salawu also extended his gratitude to the current Governor, His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering commitment and support in consolidating the dreams of his predecessor, particularly in ensuring CUSTECH begins the production of world-class medical graduates.

The Vice-Chancellor gave a firm assurance that all recommendations provided by the Council would be implemented fully and expediently to ensure the College of Medical Sciences receives the Council's nod for the next phase of its programmes.
