Mining Engineers to Honour CUSTECH VC With Fellowship Award

The Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, NSME, has announced plans to confer its highest professional honour, Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, on the Vice-Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, 15th September 2026, when a delegation of the Society, led by Engr. Anthony Ojile, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor at his office in Osara.

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Ojile said the delegation was at CUSTECH to commend Prof. Salawu for the remarkable developments and achievements recorded under his leadership as Vice-Chancellor.

He disclosed that the Society had resolved to confer its prestigious Fellowship on the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of his contributions and achievements. According to him, the conferment ceremony is scheduled to take place in October, during the Society's Annual General Meeting, AGM, to be held at the Federal University, Lokoja.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and the recognition accorded him by the professional body.

Prof. Salawu said he would remain committed to doing his best for the advancement of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, especially the members in CUSTECH, Osara and the broader development of the mining engineering profession.

He also congratulated the Society on its forthcoming AGM and wished the members a successful and fruitful gathering.

The meeting was attended by the Dean of Student Affairs, CUSTECH, Engr. Dr. Shehu Shaib.
