MOUAU Begins Refunding School Fees to Students Who Paid Before NELFUND Disbursement

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has commenced the refund of school fees to students who paid their fees before the Federal Government disbursed funds under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The development has been welcomed by beneficiaries, who confirmed receiving their refunds and commended the University management for fulfilling its promise.

A graduate of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Onu Edith Amarachukwu, said she received her refund on July 28, 2026, expressing appreciation to the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa.

She noted that the refund would enable her to attend to important personal needs and thanked the Vice-Chancellor for ensuring the process was completed.

Also speaking, Ikechi Divine, a 500-level Chemical Engineering student, said he had almost given up hope of receiving the refund before the payment was made.

He expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for keeping her promise, describing the refund as a welcome relief.

A 300-level Civil Engineering student, Samuel Onyeka Ozondiniru, described the refund as a demonstration of the University's commitment to students' welfare.

According to him, the Vice-Chancellor fulfilled her promise, a move he said has strengthened students' confidence in the University's leadership.

The refund follows an earlier directive issued by the Vice-Chancellor during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Students' Union Government (SUG).

At the event, Professor Akanwa announced that she had directed the University Bursar to immediately refund school fees paid by students before the Federal Government disbursed their NELFUND loans.

She explained that the decision was taken to ensure that eligible students fully benefited from the Federal Government's student loan scheme without suffering financial losses.
