NCC and Digital Bridge Institute Conclude Five-Day Digital Empowerment Training at Modibbo Adama University
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), in partnership with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), on Friday concluded a five-day Advanced Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI) hosted at Modibbo Adama University, Yola.
The intensive training, which ran from Monday, 8th December to Friday, 12th December, brought together both teaching and non-teaching staff of the University to strengthen their ICT competencies and deepen their digital readiness.
The programme is part of the national initiative by the NCC and DBI, aimed at bridging the digital divide in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector and equipping staff with modern digital and cybersecurity skills.
The closing ceremony, featured the presentation of Certificates of Participation and was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Umar, alongside other Principal Officers of the University.
Speaking during the event, the Coordinator of the Centre, Mr. Shamsu Mohammed, expressed appreciation to the University Management for providing the venue and continuous support throughout the programme. He commended participants for their dedication and active engagement during the sessions.
In a goodwill remark, the Branch Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Mr. Michael Omokoro, highlighted the significance of the training, especially in the area of cybersecurity. He stated that: the workshop, validates that effective cybersecurity is not a standalone IT function, but a collective security culture that must be nurtured across all faculties and administrative units for our institutional integrity and the ability to embrace emerging technologies for academic freedom and excellence.
He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the management team, for their vision and the invaluable investment in the future of the University.
Also speaking, the Deputy Registrar, Establishment (Non-Academic Matters), Alhaji Aliyu A. Laido, thanked participants for the impressive turnout and encouraged them to apply their newly acquired knowledge to enhance service delivery across the institution.
He equally commended the organizers for choosing Modibbo Adama University as a host centre for the national programme.
The ADEPTI training, continues to serve as one of Nigeria’s flagship digital capacity-building initiatives, enabling tertiary institutions to keep pace with the nation’s digital transformation goals and strengthening staff competence in ICT and cybersecurity.
