Newgate University Minna Sets Date for Maiden Convocation

Newgate University Minna will hold its inaugural convocation ceremony on 3 December 2025, marking a historic milestone as the institution graduates its first cohort of students. The announcement was made by Vice‑Chancellor Professor Sadiq Yusuf during a press briefing on 30 November 2025.

Professor Yusuf highlighted the university’s rapid growth — from an initial enrolment of 350 students to more than 2,000 students currently — and noted key achievements: full operational licence and accreditation of ten academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC); professional accreditation for Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science programmes; and a 79 % pass rate in the recent Nursing Council examinations. The campus now boasts modern classrooms, laboratories and ICT‑driven learning systems.

Looking ahead, Newgate University plans to launch new degree programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Community Health, alongside the establishment of a School of Postgraduate Studies and a Centre for Distance Learning. 

The convocation will confer degrees on 207 graduating students, including 14 first‑class honours recipients, and feature a convocation lecture by Professor Maxwell Gidado (SAN) on “Academic Freedom and University Governance: A Legal Perspective”.
