North-Eastern University, Gombe Hosts Inaugural Faculty of Law Seminar Series

On June 12, 2024, North-Eastern University, Gombe, held its inaugural Faculty of Law Seminar Series at the Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman Auditorium.

The seminar, themed "An Appraisal of Parental Child Abduction from the Lenses of Nigerian Laws," featured a keynote address by Prof. Alhaji Alkali Umar, the Dean of the Faculty of Law. The event highlighted gaps in current laws on parental child abduction and advocated for Nigeria's ratification of the Hague Convention.

Distinguished attendees included the Chief Judge of Gombe State, Hon. Justice Halima S. Mohammed; the Grand Qadi, Hon. Justice Abdullahi Maikano Usman; the Attorney General, Barr. Z. U. Umar, represented by the Director of Legal Drafting, Hon. Justice S.Y. Abubakar; the Solicitor General of Gombe State, Barr. Hinna; Commandant 301 Artillery Regiment General Support, Col. S.M. Ahmed, represented by Lt. Col. Ezekiel; and the Commissioner of Police Gombe State Police Command, CP Hayatu Usman, represented by the Head of the Legal Unit. The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Gombe State Branch, along with magistrates and private legal practitioners, were also in attendance.

The seminar promoted research and mentorship through three newly established research clusters and fostered discussions on legal reforms. The dignitaries toured the Faculty of Law’s facilities, including the e-library, library, moot court, and E-learning management system. They commended NEU for its commitment to academic excellence and innovation. The event concluded with a group photograph.
