Ondo West Local Government Honors Adeyemi Federal University of Education for Educational Excellence

Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, has been conferred an award by the People of Ondo West Local Government in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the development of education locally, nationally, and internationally.

The award presentation took place at the Robert Ware Event Centre, Ondo State, on Friday, October 30, 2025. Hon. Ayotunde Akinfolarin, Chairman of Ondo West Local Government, highlighted that the recognition celebrates the university’s consistent legacy of academic excellence and its transformative impact on education within the region and beyond.

While commending the institution’s leadership, Akinfolarin emphasized the need for effective collaboration between the local government and AFUED to further advance educational development across Ondo West and the state at large.

The award was part of activities marking the first Ondo West Local Government Business and Investment Summit and the launch of a book titled “Ondo West Local Government: People, Places, and Prospects for Development.” Akinfolarin described the publication as a testament to the unique attributes of the people of Ondo West, noting the community’s remarkable achievements in education, business, and public service.

He also paid tribute to Ondo City’s eminent personalities, highlighting their contributions to academia, professional excellence, and national development. “From professors across disciplines, civil servants, educationists, to business moguls, Ondo City has consistently produced individuals whose achievements are recognized locally, continentally, and internationally,” he said.

The ceremony was supported by corporate organizations including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BOI), SMEDAN, and private sponsors such as Denki Wire, FCMB, Greenwich, NEPC, and NibaNola. It attracted prominent figures from traditional institutions, political organizations, and educational sectors.

AFUED was represented by its top management, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, Registrar Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, and other key officials from the university’s faculties and directorates.

The award reinforces the university’s standing as a pillar of educational excellence and its enduring impact on the academic and socio-economic development of Ondo State and Nigeria.
