President Tinubu Appoints Bishop Kukah as Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia. Other key appointments include Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas as Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian. The university’s Governing Council also includes representatives from various regions.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.

The appointment, announced as part of the administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education sector, also includes the selection of key university officials. Professor Qurix Williams Barnabas has been named Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Professor Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian.

In addition to these appointments, President Tinubu approved the composition of the university’s Governing Council, featuring distinguished representatives from different regions: Mr. Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East), Professor Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East). These individuals bring extensive experience and leadership to the institution, aligning with the government's vision of fostering academic excellence and research.

President Tinubu charged the newly appointed officials to work collaboratively in building a strong foundation for the university, which is expected to admit its first set of students in September 2025. He emphasized the need for visionary leadership to position the institution as a hub for technological and applied sciences education in Nigeria.

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, was recently renamed following the federal government’s acquisition of its assets. This strategic move aligns with the administration’s broader efforts to expand access to quality higher education across the country.
