Staff of the Registry and Bursary Departments of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, have undergone a five-day intensive Information and Communication Technology, ICT, training aimed at strengthening their digital competencies and enhancing efficiency in administrative and financial operations.
The training, held from August 18 to 26, 2026, at the Eastern Wing of the Computer-Based Test, CBT, Centre, exposed participants to practical knowledge, contemporary digital tools and emerging technologies required for effective performance in a modern university environment.
Addressing the participants, the Registrar, Mr. Barnabas Terfa Hemba, and the Bursar, Dr. Amos Egwurube Otse, emphasised the importance of continuous staff development, particularly in Information and Communication Technology, ICT, as the University continues to embrace digital solutions in its administrative and financial operations.

The Registrar, Mr. Hemba, formally declared the workshop open, urging participants to take full advantage of the training to enhance their skills and contribute more effectively to the University's digital transformation.
The training was designed to equip Registry and Bursary personnel with relevant ICT skills applicable to their respective duties. Participants were introduced to ICT applications in Registry and Bursary operations, office productivity tools and other digital platforms capable of improving accuracy, efficiency and productivity in the workplace.
For Registry staff, the sessions covered Introduction to ICT in Registry Operations, as well as the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint for routine administrative responsibilities. Similarly, Bursary staff received training on Introduction to ICT in Bursary Operations and the application of Excel, Word and PowerPoint in financial and administrative activities.
The programme also focused on Digital Communication and Collaboration Tools for University Staff, equipping participants with skills for effective communication, information sharing and teamwork through digital platforms.
A major component of the training was an introduction to Artificial Intelligence, AI, for Registry and Bursary Duties. Participants were exposed to practical ways AI can support routine office functions, improve productivity, facilitate information processing and assist staff in carrying out their responsibilities more effectively.
The training further addressed critical issues relating to Cybersecurity Awareness, Digital Safety, Data Privacy and Digital Ethics. Participants were sensitised to the growing risks associated with the use of digital technologies and the need to protect institutional information, safeguard confidential data and observe responsible digital practices.
The organisers noted that the training formed part of the University's broader commitment to developing a digitally competent workforce capable of responding effectively to the changing demands of contemporary university administration.
The initiative is expected to translate into improved service delivery, greater efficiency in office operations, enhanced data management, stronger interdepartmental collaboration and increased productivity. It is also expected to support the University's broader drive towards digital transformation and more efficient institutional processes.
The participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to acquire new skills, describing the training as timely, practical and relevant to the evolving demands of their duties. They pledged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to improve their productivity, strengthen service delivery and contribute more effectively to the achievement of the University's administrative and institutional objectives.
The training therefore represents another step in the University's efforts to build a responsive, technology-driven workforce and foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation and professional development among its staff.
