The event was attended by university officials, staff and members of the diplomatic community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Dr. Nwaefuna said the recognition was part of the United World Congress of Diplomats’ efforts to identify and honour African leaders whose dedication, leadership and service have contributed significantly to the advancement of their institutions and communities.

"The Vice-Chancellor’s dedication and commitment to his responsibilities as the head of Rivers State University cannot go unnoticed. Today, RSU is on the global map because of visionary leadership, academic excellence and service to humanity," Ambassador Dr. Nwaefuna stated.
