Sa'adu Zungur University Holds Public Lecture on Cybersecurity

The Premier Chambers of the Faculty of Law, Sa'adu Zungur University, SAZU, Misau Campus, has organised a public lecture on cybersecurity aimed at enhancing awareness of digital security, cybercrime prevention, and the legal frameworks for combating emerging cyber threats in Nigeria.

The lecture, held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, was themed: "Cybersecurity in the Digital Age: Combating Cybercrime Through Law, Awareness, and Enforcement." It brought together legal scholars, security experts, academic staff, students, and other stakeholders to discuss practical approaches to promoting a safer digital environment through law, public awareness, and effective enforcement.

The Vice-Chancellor of Sa'adu Zungur University, Professor Fatimah Tahir, who attended the event as the Special Guest of Honour, described the theme as timely and highly relevant in view of the growing sophistication of cybercrime and the increasing reliance on digital technologies. She urged participants, particularly students, to apply the knowledge acquired during the lecture in promoting responsible digital citizenship and safeguarding cyberspace.

Professor Tahir also commended The Premier Chambers for organising the lecture, noting that such academic engagements complement classroom learning and prepare students to address contemporary legal and societal challenges.

Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Chief Host, Professor Saleh M. G. Kanam, welcomed participants and applauded The Premier Chambers for organising the programme. He described the lecture as a significant academic initiative that connects legal education with real-life challenges and appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for her unwavering support for academic excellence and student development.

The lecture was delivered by senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Bauchi State Command, DSP Kawu Ibrahim Mu'azu, Esq., who represented the Commissioner of Police, and ASP Muhammad Awwal El-Usman, Esq. They examined Nigeria's legal framework for combating cybercrime, investigative strategies, digital evidence, and the importance of public awareness and collaboration in preventing cyber-related offences.

The event featured an interactive session during which students engaged the resource persons on issues relating to online fraud, identity theft, data protection, digital evidence, and the role of law enforcement agencies in combating cybercrime.

The programme attracted members of the Faculty Board, academic staff, students, and other stakeholders, reaffirming the University's commitment to promoting practical legal education, intellectual discourse, and innovative solutions to contemporary societal challenges.
