Senior Fireman lectures corps members on fire prevention techniques

A senior fireman officer from the Fire & Rescue Service, Mr Okesanya Obafemi has said firefighters don't come late when called through their direct line instead of calling the Nigerian emergency number 112. He said this at the fire and safety lecture delivered to corps members of the 2022 batch 'B' Stream II Orientation Course at Iyana-paja, Lagos, today.

A senior fireman officer from the Fire & Rescue Service, Mr Okesanya Obafemi has said firefighters don't come late when called through their direct line instead of calling the Nigerian emergency number 112. He said this at the fire and safety lecture delivered to corps members of the 2022 batch 'B' Stream II Orientation Course at Iyana-paja, Lagos, today. 

He said firefighters are responsible for safety, protection and rescue from fire and they take their job responsibly when called. He said fire is caused by the component reactions of fuel, heat and oxygen and can get ragingly destructive if these components are intensified. He also explained the four stages of fire which are the ignition stage, growth stage, fully developed stage and the decay stage.

He went ahead to state the classes of fire and their safety, class A- fires involving solid materials such as wood, paper etc., class B- fires involving flammable liquids such as diesel, petrol etc., Class C- fires involving gaseous substances such as methylene etc., Class D- fires involving metals., Class E and Class F- fires involving cooking oils.

Having explained different causes of fire, he rounded off his lecture by introducing  fire safety equipments to the corps members. He warned them to be careful while handling fire, and to ensure equipments are kept in the right places in their homes.
