The Kwara State Government has issued a stern warning to Principals of Senior Secondary Schools within the state against imposing illegal charges for the National Examination Council (NECO) registration for prospective students intending to sit for the 2024 examinations.

Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, delivered this caution during the commencement of the registration exercise for the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. The government, through a statement by Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary in the Ministry, specified the approved total fee for the 2024 NECO examination as N28,500 per student, which includes various charges such as NECO Fee, E-registration charges, administrative charges, and additional costs for materials.

Modibbo-Kawu emphasized the government's stance against any form of unauthorized fees beyond the approved amount for NECO, stressing that violators would face legal consequences.Furthermore, the commissioner urged principals to uphold integrity during examinations and avoid any involvement in examination malpractices, as the government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards such actions.

She commended the efforts of principals in fostering good relationships with the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development to improve education standards in the state.

In addition, the government affirmed its commitment to enhancing education standards by subsidizing NECO fees for about 55,000 JSS 3 students in the State and paying reaccreditation fees for all 236 schools due for the program.

Mallam Bello Abubakar, Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his administration's achievements in the education sector and urged teachers to remain dedicated to their duties.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca, urged principals to maintain integrity throughout the examination process and avoid any interference, while the President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools in the State, Comrade Usman Abdullahi, commended the governor for his efforts in revamping the education sector.
