Residents of Ehime Mbano Local Government Area (LGA) in Imo State are reeling from a horrifying incident, as reports have confirmed the assassination of a prominent figure. The victim, identified as Innocent Obi, was a retired ex-military personnel who had transitioned into the role of Deputy Registrar at a federal polytechnic in Ehime Mbano, Imo.

The emerging report reveals that assailants, believed to be associated with Biafra agitators, carried out a fatal attack on Innocent Obi within the confines of his residence in the Ezeala/Ezike community in Umuezeala, Ehime Mbano LGA. The Imo State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement regarding this tragic incident.

In the late hours of the evening, a group of more than six attackers, cleverly disguised in military and police uniforms, breached Obi's home at approximately 10 p.m. The ensuing confrontation was marked by gunfire, causing panic among those who had rushed to rescue Obi. In a chilling turn of events, the assailants forcibly abducted Obi, leaving behind a grisly scene marked by the presence of substantial bloodstains.

According to local sources, the attackers forcibly entered Obi's home by breaking through the main door, employing machetes and axes in a brutal assault. Although the victim's cries for help drew the attention of villagers to the scene, the assailants resorted to firing shots into the air, preventing any meaningful intervention.

The following day, a search party was summoned by concerned villagers, culminating in the discovery of a decomposing corpse in the vicinity situated between Ehime Mbano and Ahiazu Mbaise on a late Sunday afternoon. The victim, identified as Dee Onye Army, had met a gruesome end, with his identity rendered unrecognizable due to the brutal nature of the attack.

Dee Onye Army, affectionately known as such within the community, was celebrated for his unwavering dedication to providing educational opportunities for local youth. It is said that he was instrumental in securing admissions for numerous young individuals in schools, reflecting his commitment to fostering education. Remarkably, despite his contributions, Dee Onye Army led a humble and unassuming lifestyle, never ostentatiously flaunting his wealth.

Tragically, his dream of constructing a new house in the village had been well underway, having reached the decking stage, but his life was abruptly cut short, leaving the community in mourning.
