Keep the flag flying, Nasarawa emir urges Nigeria Cartographic Association (NCA) at FULAfia

Enumerating the significance of cartographers to the nation’s development, the Emir of Nasarawa, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril (CON), had called on members of the Nigerian Cartographic Association (NCA) to keep the flag flying.

According to the emir, cartographers perform the difficult tasks of design, preparing and revising maps, charts, plans, three-dimensional models and spatial information databases, often using computer-based techniques and applying principles from science, mathematics and graphic design.

“Of course, these are not simple things to do, he said, adding that the NCA members were hugely contributing to development of the country in many ways.

The emir spoke during the 44th International Conference Workshop and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the National Cartographic Association (NCA), which took place at FULafia.

He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, for hosting the event, saying the he was improving the visibility of the University and highlighting its commitment to the development of Nigeria.

The royal father advised participants at the conference to initiate ways to solve cartographic challenges in the country.

Speaking earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, commended the Nigerian Cartographic Association (NCA) for partnering with with the Federal University of Lafia.

In his speech, the National Cartographic Association (NCA), Professor Momoh L Rilwani, appreciated the vice-chancellor for hosting this year’s conference saying: "Thank you for giving us a platform and the Department of Geography, FULafia, for ensuring the success of the event.”

Professor Rilwani pointed out that the theme of the conference: "Mapping for Integrated, Governance, Land Administration and National Security ", came as a result of the need to proffer solutions to national challenges through mapping.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of NCA professional certificates and medals of honour to special guests, including the emir and Abdul Rahman.
