The Federal Government has commissioned a 3MW solar-hybrid power plant at the University of Abuja, in a major boost to electricity supply for teaching, research, laboratory services and other critical operations on campus.

The Federal Government has commissioned a 3MW solar-hybrid power plant at the University of Abuja, in a major boost to electricity supply for teaching, research, laboratory services and other critical operations on campus.
The project was commissioned by the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony.
Chief Tegbe said the intervention would help reduce the university’s dependence on diesel-powered generators and provide a more reliable electricity supply for academic and other activities.
The project was delivered under Phase II of the Federal Government’s Energising Education Programme (EEP) by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) through the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), with support from the World Bank.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, described the project as a direct investment in the university’s academic mission and pledged that the institution would ensure its proper maintenance and sustainable use.
He said the facility was expected to benefit more than 40,000 students and 3,500 staff of the university, while also improving security and creating a more conducive environment for learning and work.
