SSANU Redeems Pledge, Donates Date Palm Seedlings Worth ₦200,000 to Support FUGA Green Code
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Federal University Gashua, FUGA Branch, has donated date palm tree seedlings worth ₦200,000 to support the FUGA Green Code, FGC, Initiative, fulfilling a pledge made during the official launch of the programme.
Presenting the seedlings to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, at the university on Monday, 8th September 2026, the SSANU-FUGA Branch Chairman, Comrade Arch. Kaka Bukar Dikwa, said the donation fulfilled the commitment earlier made by the association to support the university's environmental sustainability drive.
Dikwa commended the Vice-Chancellor for running an inclusive administration and prioritising staff welfare, particularly the prompt payment of staff entitlements.
He said SSANU members remained solidly behind the administration and would continue to support its policies and programmes aimed at advancing the institution.
The chairman urged the Vice-Chancellor to sustain the momentum and do more to improve staff welfare and the overall development of the institution.
Responding, Professor Geidam described SSANU as "an association you can rely on," commending the union for redeeming its pledge to the FUGA Green Code.
He noted that while making a pledge was one thing, fulfilling it required commitment and courage, describing the gesture as a demonstration of SSANU's sincerity and support for the university's development agenda.

The Vice-Chancellor said the FUGA Green Code had brought considerable goodwill to the university, attracting support from individuals, organisations, and other stakeholders.
He observed that the days when staff unions were expected to be constantly opposed to management were gone, stressing that constructive engagement and collaboration between management and unions were critical to institutional development.
Professor Geidam urged SSANU to further sensitise its members on the need to reciprocate management's efforts in staff welfare by being punctual, committed, and dedicated to their duties.
The FUGA Green Code, anchored on the theme "One Student, One Tree, One Greener Future," seeks to promote tree planting, environmental responsibility, and sustainability across the university community.
