Taraba State University Holds 2nd Induction And Oath-Taking Ceremony For 168 Medical Laboratory Science Graduates

Taraba State University, TSU, Jalingo, has successfully held the Second Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony for 168 graduates of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Faculty of Health Sciences, marking another significant milestone in the University's commitment to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals.

The colourful ceremony was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, the Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, MLSCN, Dr. Donald Ofili, represented by his delegate, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Rt. Hon. Prof. Josiah Sabo Kente, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Rhoda Onyekwena, the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Dr. Emmanuel Kashibu, representatives of traditional institutions, including HRH Ezekiel Bairik Augustine, representing the Ardo-Kola Traditional Council, alongside management staff, lecturers, parents, students, and well-wishers.

Delivering his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, described the induction as a historic moment for both the University and the graduating students. He congratulated the inductees for successfully completing years of rigorous academic and laboratory training, noting that they had transitioned from students to licensed professionals ready to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector.

He reminded the graduates that healthcare is evolving rapidly and that advances in technology are transforming laboratory medicine, disease diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment. He therefore challenged the newly inducted Medical Laboratory Scientists to embrace continuous professional development and lifelong learning in order to remain relevant in the ever-changing medical landscape.

Prof. Bako further expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his unwavering support and commitment to strengthening education and healthcare training in the state. He urged the graduates to serve as worthy ambassadors of Taraba State University during their internship programmes, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and future professional careers.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the lecturers and staff of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science for their dedication, mentorship, and commitment to academic excellence, which have contributed immensely to the success of the programme.

In his remarks, the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Dr. Emmanuel Kashibu, expressed profound gratitude and joy as the Department celebrated its second induction ceremony. He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, and the University Management for their continuous support and commitment towards the growth and development of the Medical Laboratory Science programme.

Dr. Kashibu also acknowledged the immense contributions of the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, MLSCN, describing the Council as an integral part of the Department's success story and professional advancement.

As part of the ceremony, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, on behalf of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, presented a professional licence to the overall best graduating inductee, who emerged with an outstanding CGPA of 4.72, in recognition of exceptional academic performance.

The highlight of the event was the administration of the professional oath on the 168 inductees, officially admitting them into the noble profession of Medical Laboratory Science.

The ceremony concluded with a charge to the newly inducted professionals to uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, integrity, and excellence as they begin their careers in service to humanity.
