TASFUED Adopts Songhaï Model to Drive Sustainable Agricultural Growth

Members of the Management of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, recently embarked on a strategic working visit to the renowned Songhaï Centre in Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin, as part of the University’s commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture, innovation and institutional self-sufficiency.

Renowned for its pioneering integrated, zero-waste agro-ecological model, the Songhaï Centre offers a practical blueprint for developing modern, sustainable and commercially viable agricultural enterprises.

The visit is in line with the University’s strategic roadmap to strengthen and expand its agricultural operations, particularly the Imaka Plantation and the Ijebu-Ife agricultural project, with a view to modernising production, promoting research and generating additional Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to support institutional development.

By adapting proven sustainable and high-yield agribusiness practices, TASFUED is positioning its agricultural initiatives to become centres of production, innovation, practical research, entrepreneurship and food-security development.

The initiative also aligns with the Federal Government’s resolve to promote food security and self-sufficiency in food production by encouraging sustainable agricultural practices, increased local production and the development of productive value chains.

Through this alignment, the University is contributing its quota to the national drive to strengthen food production, reduce dependence on food imports and promote agricultural entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.

With the Institute of Vocational Training and Research in Agriculture (IVOTRA) willing and ready to translate this vision into reality, the University is taking purposeful steps towards unlocking the full potential of agriculture as a driver of sustainable institutional growth, food security, entrepreneurship and national development.
