Thomas Adewumi University has approved the appointment of Mr. David A. Stephen of the Department of Public Health as Coordinator of its Centre for Sustainability Science.
The appointment, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca O. Oladipo, is positioned as part of the university’s broader strategy to strengthen its focus on sustainability-driven research, innovation, and community engagement.
In his new role, Mr. Stephen is expected to provide leadership in integrating sustainability principles across the institution’s core academic functions, including teaching, research, and community service. He will also coordinate interdisciplinary collaborations aimed at addressing emerging global challenges.

Key focus areas of the Centre under his leadership include climate change research, renewable energy development, and public health innovation, alongside initiatives designed to support practical solutions to societal issues such as poverty reduction, healthcare access, and environmental protection.
The university stated that the appointment aligns with its long-term ambition to position itself as a regional leader in sustainability science, in line with global development frameworks, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
The Centre is also expected to strengthen partnerships, attract research funding, and deepen collaboration with both local and international institutions to expand its impact footprint.
