Transatlantic University of Medicine and Health Sciences Receives NUC Operational Licence

The National Universities Commission NUC has granted an operational licence to the Transatlantic University of Medicine and Health Sciences Umuchukwu Anambra State clearing the institution to commence academic activities.

The operational licence and accreditation clearance were presented on Friday at the NUC headquarters in Abuja by the Executive Secretary of the Commission Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu to the university's founder Dr. Godwin Maduka after the institution met the regulatory standards required for operation.

With the approval the university is expected to begin admissions into three faculties offering a total of 17 accredited academic programmes.

Speaking during the presentation Professor Ribadu congratulated the institution for meeting the required benchmarks for licensing and programme accreditation. He reaffirmed the NUC's commitment to promoting quality assurance maintaining high academic standards and strengthening the global competitiveness of Nigeria's university system.

Founder of the university Dr. Godwin Maduka a United States based physician and pain management specialist described the institution as a landmark project that will redefine medical education health research and innovation in Nigeria.

He said the university is expected to position Anambra State as a major centre for medical education scientific research and healthcare innovation while creating employment opportunities and expanding access to quality education for young people pursuing careers in the health sector.

Dr. Maduka also disclosed that Africa Trado Medicine will receive special attention at the institution reflecting his long standing interest in integrating traditional African medicine into healthcare and medical research.

Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone described the establishment of the university as the beginning of a new era for human capital development medical education and health research in Nigeria and across Africa.

Professor Esimone a former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University said the institution has recruited experienced medical professionals researchers and academics from different parts of the world to deliver world class teaching research and innovation.

According to the university the institution is equipped with modern facilities to support teaching research and healthcare services. It also stated that its main academic building is reputed to be the tallest medical university and research centre in Africa.
