UAT VC Charges Registry Staff on Professionalism, Confidentiality and Service Excellence

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Africa Toru-Orua (UAT), Prof. Solomon Tamarabrakemi Ebobrah, has charged Registry staff to uphold professionalism, confidentiality, efficiency and excellence in the discharge of their duties.

Prof. Ebobrah gave the charge while addressing participants at a two-day capacity-building workshop organised by the Association of Nigerian Professional University Administrators (ANUPA), UAT Chapter, held on August 24 and 26, 2026.

Speaking on the theme, “Enhancing Efficiency, Digital Transformation and Service Excellence in the University Registry,” the Vice-Chancellor described administrators as the face of the university, noting that students and other stakeholders interact more frequently with administrative staff than with senior university officials.

He stressed that the quality of administrative services has a significant influence on the perception and reputation of the university. According to him, students should be treated as clients and made to feel welcome, while administrative processes should be handled efficiently, professionally and with empathy.

The Vice-Chancellor also emphasised the importance of confidentiality and warned Registry staff against unauthorised disclosure of official information.

He urged the participants to take the training seriously and translate the knowledge gained into improved service delivery across the Registry.

Also speaking, the Registrar of UAT, Mrs. Tare-ela Darlington Abite, said the workshop was organised to strengthen the knowledge and skills of Registry staff and equip them with improved approaches to their responsibilities in an increasingly changing administrative environment.

She described the theme as timely, particularly as university administration increasingly requires staff to embrace technology, maintain accurate records, reduce delays and provide efficient and professional services to students, staff and other stakeholders.

The Registrar encouraged participants to actively engage with the resource persons and apply the lessons learnt to their daily responsibilities. She described staff development and continuous retraining as important investments in improving the effectiveness of the Registry.

The workshop featured presentations on Modern University Registry Administration and Records Management, as well as Ethics, Professionalism and Confidentiality, with emphasis on improving administrative efficiency and service excellence.

The technical sessions were facilitated by Dr. Samuel Agunze, Dr. Somukume Hartrest Sogwe, Mr. Miriki Sokpara and Mr. Evans Porbeni, giving participants the opportunity to engage with the facilitators on the various sub-themes.

In his presentation titled “Modern University Registry: Administrative Roles, Responsibilities, Best Practices and Records Management in the University System,” Dr. Agunze highlighted the central role of the Registry in university administration.

He stressed the importance of accurate record-keeping, effective records management, professional competence, continuous self-development and the contribution of every administrative role to the overall effectiveness of the university.

Dr. Sogwe, who spoke on “Ethics, Professionalism and Confidentiality in the Registry,” emphasised integrity, fairness, accountability, confidentiality, punctuality and diligence.

He urged Registry staff to uphold professional standards, protect sensitive official information and provide courteous and efficient services to students and other stakeholders.

Mr. Miriki Sokpara focused on current trends in minutes writing and official correspondence, while Mr. Evans Porbeni spoke extensively on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and Microsoft applications.

Delivering the vote of thanks at the end of the two-day workshop, the Chairman of ANUPA, UAT Chapter, Mr. Daniel Ebedebiri, thanked God for the successful and impactful training.

He urged participants to make effective use of the knowledge acquired during the workshop and appreciated the university management for its support towards ensuring the success of the programme.

Mr. Ebedebiri reaffirmed ANUPA’s commitment to staff development, noting that the association would continue to seek opportunities to train and retrain its members.

Participants described the workshop as a worthwhile initiative of the Ebedebiri-led executive, commending the training as timely and important to their professional development.
