UDUS Students Frustrated Over Delayed NELFUND Refund
Students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) are expressing frustration over delays in the payment of their NELFUND refunds. Despite submitting all necessary documents, many students have not received their refunds, with some waiting for months.
The affected students claim to have fulfilled all requirements, including submitting letters and account details, but only a few have been paid. Some students have reportedly been embarrassed after being unable to fulfill financial obligations they had committed to, due to the delayed payment.
The situation has caused difficulties for students, particularly those who are self-sponsored and rely on the refund to cover their living expenses. Some students have had to miss deadlines for project submissions and exams due to the delay.
The NELFUND Desk Officer at UDUS attributed the delay to administrative processes, including verification and reconciliation of records, and assured that efforts are ongoing to digitalize the process and provide regular updates to students.
An education analyst, Dr. Halimah Yusuf, described the situation as a crisis of trust and advised the school management to ensure timely disbursement of funds and publish dates and amounts to enhance transparency.
