The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Management has addressed concerns regarding difficulties some students face in the clearance process for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, particularly those admitted provisionally.
Reports indicated that students in the Faculty of Optometry were allegedly being denied clearance due to quota limitations imposed by a professional body. The University clarified that it is accountable only to the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), not professional bodies. As such, no student meeting the minimum entry requirements will be denied clearance to pursue their programme.

Affected students, including those in Optometry, are advised to report immediately to their Faculties and Clearance Officers to complete the clearance process.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, and University Management reaffirmed that all duly admitted students will be cleared, provided they meet academic requirements. Deans and Clearance Officers are instructed to adhere strictly to this directive.
UNIBEN emphasizes its commitment to ensuring fair access and transparency in the admission and clearance process.
